PREPARE YOURSELF: A Bloody New Take on Mortal Kombat SNES

SNES Games Romhacks

The SNES version of Mortal Kombat was infamous for what it didn’t have, the blood, gore, and raw violence that defined the arcade original. But what if that changed? A new hack aims to answer that with a vengeance. Mortal Kombat Nitro Championship Edition.

Inspired by James MK Fink’s legendary Mortal Kombat Nitro and building on Snark-4918’s Championship Edition, this remix doesn’t just uncensor the game it drenches it in crimson.

What’s New?

This isn’t your average blood patch. Almost every corner of the game has been touched up or reimagined with brutality in mind:

  • More Blood, More Gore – Blood sprays thicker than ever, and several fatalities have been completely redrawn to take full advantage of it.
  • New Reptile Fatality – Reptile gets a custom finisher using repurposed assets from Sub-Zero. It’s as gruesome as it is clever.
  • Arcade Fixes – Small but meaningful changes bring the SNES experience closer to the arcade:
    • “Finishing Bonus” now correctly says FATALITY.
    • Rayden has been renamed to the proper Raiden.
  • Bosses Are Back – Just like in the Championship Edition, Goro and Shang Tsung are fully playable.

A Remix with Respect

This project doesn’t just go for shock value, it’s a careful blend of restoration, remixing, and homage. Fans of MK Nitro will appreciate the over-the-top blood and custom touches, while purists will be glad to see arcade-style elements brought back to life.

If you ever wished your childhood SNES cart had just a bit more bite, this might be the definitive way to revisit it.
