Mortal Kombat II: Arkade Edition is a ROM hack that overhauls the infamous NES bootleg of Mortal Kombat II. Originally a barely functional pirate port, this version makes major improvements to graphics, sound, and gameplay, bringing it closer in spirit to the arcade classic.
The hack refines controls, updates sprites and backgrounds, and adds more accurate special moves and character animations. While still limited by NES hardware, it’s a dramatic improvement over the original and actually enjoyable to play.
The game includes a selection of familiar characters like Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion. It runs on NES emulators, MiSTer, or real hardware using a flash cart.
This project was developed by a dedicated team of fans, including Drax01, RetroKidKnuckles, lordzai, Hacks-Roms, FoxCunning, The Jabu, tacoschip, Amilgi, and velpachallenger. Their work builds on the bootleg foundations left by Hummer Team and reshapes it into something genuinely fun.
If you’re curious to see Mortal Kombat on the NES done right, this hack is worth checking out.
