Big MiSTer Multisystem 2 Update – It’s Heading for Primetime

MiSTer FPGA

We love all things MiSTer FPGA here on Metal Game Solid. Long gone are the days where you had to order a DE10 NANO from Terasic, Mouser or Digikeys, and then combine your newly bought FPGA board with accessories such as a USB hub and an IO board. The evolution has come along away from the classic sandwich stack case, to everything in-between to now what may be considered as the pinnacle by some, I’m talking about the MiSTer Multisystem 2. Before I go further I want to advise you all to watch the latest video linked below from the The Retro Collective, it really is mind-blowing how much the dedicated team of around 15 people at Heber have achieved.

The MMS2 is still on target to start shipping during this month of August 2025. You can still pre-order a unit if you would like one. There are two variants available, one with analogue and HDMI output, and one with just HDMI. The team are great at adapting to customer feedback, and have recently made changes that will allow non Heber adapters (SNAC etc) to work with the MMS2. Below are some key points mentioned in the video. I’d still strongly recommend watching the video for yourself, as there’s a lot more information in there, especially regarding things like the testing of individual components.

Production is underway, and the first units are shipping in early August.

An add-on cartridge is being developed to support existing snack adapters.

The design is final and has been extensively tested.

3D printing capacity was increased to produce cases and other plastic parts.

Design files for the case will be made available on Printables.

Alternative coloured cases will be available, you even mix and match.

A Game Boy/Game Boy Advance cartridge reader has been prototyped.

A new PC Engine control dock has been created (it works with other devices too)

The modular arcade controller range is progressing, with a trackball and spinner in development.

The team encourages community engagement and is open to new ideas.
