A Shmup from 1992 Gets a Sequel! – Project X Light Years

Games

Project X: Light Years is an upcoming shoot-’em-up that proudly wears its heritage. Developed by MK Games under license from Team17, this new title serves as a direct sequel to the original Project X released on the Amiga in 1992.

The game stays faithful to its roots with fast-paced, side-scrolling action, while modernizing the experience with HD visuals, refined controls, and a full reimagined soundtrack by Allister Brimble, the composer of the original game. Players can expect intense enemy patterns, massive boss battles, and over 30 power-ups to collect.

The game is nearly complete, and a demo is already available on Steam. Early impressions from the community have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the balance of retro style and modern polish.

If you grew up with the original Project X, this sequel is shaping up to be a respectful and exciting continuation of that legacy.
