FPGA Gaming Discord Servers (inc invite links)

We at Metal Game Solid, absolutely positively love FPGA Gaming, whether it’s gaming on the MiSTer, Analogue Pocket, Tang Console or anything else at that. FPGA Gaming is a niche within the wider scope of Retro Gaming, so sometimes it can be a little bit difficult to find like minded gamers, receive (and provide) support and generally just sharing experiences with one another.

Down below are a list of Discord servers, with invite links to each one. While some share similar traits, they often specialise in one field over another. Please remember to be respectful in all servers you join, read and adhere to the rules.

MiSTer FPGA

This server pretty much covers all things FPGA Gaming, but as the server name suggests it specializes in the MiSTer FPGA DE10 Nano project. You’ll find over 17,000 strong members on here. It’s a great place to get advice if you ever get stuck on anything MiSTer related. You’ll also find the vast majority of MiSTer developers here, you can also gain early access to test builds and nightlies here.

FPGAming

This is another server that covers all things FPGA Gaming, however the focus of this server is definitely more towards the Analogue devices, especially the Analogue Pocket and the openFPGA side of things. You’ll find great support for any and all Analogue related issues. The vast majority of openFPGA core developers can be found here.

JTFPGA

Jotego is one of the biggest developers in the FPGA Gaming scene. He is mainly known for his arcade cores. He as brought over heavyweight systems such as CPS1 & 2, SEGA Systems 16 & 18, Konami titles such as Sunset Riders and so much more. Jotego and his team support so many different FPGA systems, such as the MiSTer, Analogue Pocket, SiDi, MiST and even any future systems that may arise. This discord is the best for discussing and getting any support for all JT cores.

FPGA Arcade

There was an FPGA project years ago that was released and a small quantity of boards were made and sold. That board was known as the Replay and was created by the FPGA Arcade. This server focuses on the upcoming follow-up board known as the Replay 2. The Replay 2 is planned to release in two variants, “Lite” and “Phat board. The boards will be using bleeding edge Agilex 3/5 FPGA hardware.

Taki

Taki Udon a well-known YouTuber that was best known for reviewing various handheld emulation devices along with handheld PC’s. Over the past year or so, Taki and a company called Retro Remake that he co-found entered the FPGA Gaming scene. They produced a cheaper alternative DE10 Nano board that is used in the MiSTer FPGA project. They are also working on multiple devices, which include screen upgrades for the Nintendo Switch, as well as a PlayStation inspired MiSTer, know as the SuperStationOne. Taki’s server many things among them is his FPGA Gaming projects.

Sipeed Nano HomeLab

This is the official server for all things Sipeed related. They have a dedicated channel for the Tang Console. So if you need to discuss anything Tang or get support, this is the place.

MiSTerAddons

Not only is MiSTer Addons a store that sells complete MiSTer set ups. The owner Porkchop Express is a very competent engineer who has devised a number of items that really bring a great user experience to many. From adapters like the Reflex Adapt that allows you to use original controllers with your MiSTer, to gadgets that let you connect your MiSTer to various displays. Most notable has to be the MiSTercade that lets you use your MiSTer in an arcade machine set up with extreme ease. The MiSTer Addons server is the best place to get support for any items that are manufactured by MiSTer Addons.

Zaparoo

Zaparoo NFC loading is a big part of the MiSTer ecosystem, but as well as that the main developer behind the Zaparoo project has made so many contributions to the FPGA Gaming scene. It’s a good place to get support not just for Zaparoo but lots of QoL features that make FPGA Gaming a nicer experience.

Analogizer-FPGA

The Analogizer is a device that lets you connect your Analogue Pocket to a CRT. As well as that it lets you connect original controllers via a SNAC adapter. The server is a great place for any information, support and features requests.

MiSTer Organize

MiSTer Organize is a project that is there to make managing your game libraries super easy on your MiSTer. It indexes and categorizes you collection in multiple different ways that are really easy to access. It’s a good way to rediscover forgotten gems or just to find new ones. The server provides help and support with set up as well as general support.

Video Game Esoterica

A YouTuber known as Video Game Esoterica. This is great channel that among many retro and retro inspired things, covers FPGA Gaming. You should check out this server if you’re into rare arcade games, as this server has managed to preserve some extremely sought after undumped games. This server is a good general place to chat with like minded people, and it also offers a level of support in many topics it covers.

PCN Gaming

The Pixel Cherry Ninja (me) server. This is a FPGA Gaming focused server that also dives into other retro realms. It particular ROM hacks are really liked. If you have a video idea for the channel or an article idea for Metal Game Solid, you can pitch it here. There are a lot of knowledgeable member on this server that can help with FPGA Gaming related issues.
