If you have either a Nintendo Switch 1 or 2 and you subscribe to the higher tier of the Nintendo Switch Online Service, known as the expansion pack. You may be pleased to find out that Forsaken 64 (Nintendo 64) is coming to the Mature NSO N64 Collection on the 4th of September 2025.
Developed by Probe Entertainment and published by Acclaim, Forsaken 64 is a first-person shooter that stands out for its six-degrees-of-freedom movement, where players pilot a hovercraft through tight, futuristic tunnels. The game is often compared to the Descent series, offering a similar blend of frantic combat and environmental navigation.
While the game was released on PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo 64, the N64 version is notable for its significant differences. Unlike the PC and PlayStation versions, which were more puzzle-focused, Forsaken 64 was developed by a separate team (Iguana Entertainment UK) and has a distinct gameplay flow with entirely different levels and enemies. The N64 version is generally considered more action-oriented and less cerebral than its counterparts.
Another key differentiator is the multiplayer. While the PC version supported up to 16 players online, Forsaken 64 offered a robust four-player split-screen mode with computer-controlled opponents (bots), which was a major selling point for local multiplayer. The game also featured unique lighting effects that were highly praised at the time. A remastered version of the game, based primarily on the PC version, was released in 2018 and included the N64 levels as bonus content, and now have it for the Nintendo Switch Consoles.
