Following the DX releases of Final Fantasy Legend and Final Fantasy Legend II that I covered before, the third entry has now received the same treatment. Final Fantasy Legend III DX was released on September 3, 2025, adding full Game Boy Color support to the original monochrome game from 1993.
Like the previous hacks, the gameplay remains untouched, but the addition of color makes the world and menus far more vibrant and readable. With this release, the entire trilogy can now be enjoyed in DX form, giving players a fresh way to experience some of Square’s most important early handheld RPGs.
Having played through the first two DX hacks, I’m glad to see the series completed. Final Fantasy Legend III always felt a little different from its predecessors, but this new version makes it more enjoyable to revisit and perhaps the best starting point for newcomers.
