Originally released in 1996 for the Game Boy, Mole Mania was one of Nintendo’s hidden puzzle gems. Starring Muddy Mole on a quest to rescue his family, the game offered over 200 screens of clever puzzles but remained overshadowed by bigger Nintendo hits of its era.
Now, fans can experience it in a whole new way with Mole Mania DX, a ROM hack that fully colorizes the game for the Game Boy Color. Every area has been carefully reimagined with vibrant palettes that stay true to the original design, breathing fresh life into snowy fields, villages, and underground puzzle rooms.
The project comes from Kensu William (graphics) and Marc Max (coding), who have worked to ensure the hack runs smoothly on real GBC hardware as well as emulators. To play, you’ll need a valid ROM dump of the original Mole Mania (USA/Europe) and apply the DX patch through an online or offline patcher.
Patch the game here.
