A community member, Woozle from Pixel FX (known for products like the Morph 4K upscaler and various console HDMI kits), is developing a 4K AV board for the MiSTer FPGA.
Key Facts About the Project
- Target Device: The board is specifically designed for the original DE10 Nano MiSTer FPGA.
- Purpose: To enable 4K video output for the MiSTer.
- Development Stage: The project, referred to as the “MiSTer 4K board,” is currently soliciting feature suggestions and feedback from the MiSTer community on the official Discord server.
- Technology: It utilizes the same FPGA DDR2 technology found in the Pixel FX Morph 4K upscaler to process the 4K image.
Features of the Proposed Board
- Case Compatibility: It is intended to fit inside current MiSTer cases, but will require new, easily 3D-printable IO panels.
- Power:
- Features a built-in USBC power input and a power switch.
- It can safely power the DE10 Nano or be powered by it.
- There is no risk if both the Nano’s power and the hat’s power are plugged in simultaneously.
- Remote Control: Includes an infrared (IR) sensor and will support Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) remotes, allowing the MiSTer to be controlled by a standard television remote.
- Internal Connection: The DE10 Nano’s I2C bus is connected to an ESP32.
