The Sega Saturn emulator Ymir has received a major update with version 0.2.0, adding a new feature called low-level CD Block emulation. This option makes Saturn games run more accurately by recreating how the real console’s CD drive works. It requires a CD Block ROM file, but it fixes many issues that older versions had, letting more games boot and play properly.
Ymir now reaches over 90% game compatibility, with titles like Resident Evil, Pocket Fighter, and several others running better than before. Performance is slightly lower when the new CD mode is turned on, but the trade-off is worth it for the improved accuracy.
This update also introduces an automatic update checker, better CPU timing, and many graphics fixes that make games look and run smoother. macOS users will notice separate versions for Intel and Apple Silicon, while Windows and Linux builds are still available as usual.
Overall, Ymir v0.2.0 is a big step forward for Saturn emulation, making it easier and more reliable to enjoy one of Sega’s most complex systems on modern hardware.
