After more than three decades, Splatter World, a lost Famicom horror RPG based on Namco’s Splatterhouse series, has finally surfaced online. The game appeared anonymously on 4chan’s retro gaming board around Halloween and was quickly confirmed to be fully playable in emulators such as FCEUX.
Originally thought to be a canceled spin-off of Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, Splatter World mixes horror themes with top-down RPG gameplay. Its existence had been rumored in old Japanese listings, but no footage or ROM had ever been seen until now.
Collectors and preservationists are still verifying its authenticity, though early findings suggest it could be a legitimate Namco prototype that never made it to production. Legal ownership of the dump remains unclear, but it’s already being hailed as one of the most exciting Famicom discoveries in years.
A fascinating new chapter in Splatterhouse history has just been unearthed, one that fans never expected to play.
