Voultar: The Modder, The Machine, and The Miracle of the Second Chance

Voultar is a widely recognized and talented retro gaming hardware engineer, known for developing essential modification kits that significantly enhance the video quality of classic consoles. His notable inventions, such as the SNES Edge-Enhancer Kit and the N64RGB Kit, have become industry benchmarks, allowing game peeps to achieve modern, high-definition clarity from systems originally designed for old cathode-ray tube (CRT) televisions. His detailed soldering tutorials have made him an influential figure, teaching countless individuals the “sacred art of soldering and proper rework.”

However, the self-made modder’s career and personal life were deeply challenged in 2025. On February 23, his life changed when he sustained a heart attack and was diagnosed with a dangerous AFIB. In a sincere address to his community, he shared that he did not know what would happen, but offered his appreciation for the friendships made and the honour of teaching. He assured customers that any systems sent in for installation would be promptly shipped back if he succumbed to the illness.

This severe health crisis revealed a period of struggle. In subsequent months, Voultar opened up about dealing with profound anxiety, depression, and personal trauma, admitting that he had emotionally spiraled out of control. Since the heart attack, however, he became highly disciplined, working with a team of gracious healthcare professionals to rehabilitate his heart, body, and mind. . He expressed deep gratitude to his followers, saying their well wishes and kind messages had been instrumental in keeping him alive.

The road to recovery has been marked by small but meaningful milestones. By July, he was medically cleared to ride motorcycles, recognizing that “Life is precious. We take the simplest things for granted.” He began to regain his strength, noting on July 21 that he was on a normal work schedule and planned to finish up customer installs before updating his inventory. Despite still navigating the challenges of recovery, using a lawn tractor on one occasion to get fresh air when he was too weak to walk, Voultar has focused on getting to appointments and living his best life. He remains dedicated to his craft and his community, expressing his excitement to “get back into the lab and finish up the pile of work” as he moves toward a full return.

At the height of his ill health, Voultar was undergoing many medical tests and procedures. Events like this can cause a lot of pain and anxiety, even for the strongest of people. This video, from an X post, sent shivers down the Retro Gaming community’s spine.
So, once on the road to recovery, it was nice to see the steps, and to see Voultar being allowed to medically ride a motorbike.
To show the humorous side of Voultar, when feeling weak and unable to walk after a blood transfusion, he decided to go for a stroll using his lawnmower.

The true measure of a spirit is not how it navigates calm seas, but how it rebuilds after the storm. Emerging from a period of profound illness and personal trauma, the journey of healing has become a testament to raw, resilient discipline. Facing a grave health scare and the subsequent emotional weight of anxiety and depression, the focus narrowed to the essential work of recovery. Each day became a determined stride forward: seeking counsel from healthcare professionals, replacing old habits with rigorous exercise, and reclaiming physical and mental strength, sometimes relying on the simple joy of fresh air, even if only from a lawn tractor. By choosing to face the adversity head-on, and remaining committed to the work, the fog of illness has steadily lifted. Now, with strength returning and a normal work schedule in sight, the individual is not just surviving but thriving, proving that every intentional step toward health is a precious victory.

  1. Love to see you doing an article about him! I wish him all the best and glad to see him doing so much better.
I still remember how he ‘reprimanded’ Tito for how he butchered off the digital video port on a GameCube for the Pluto HDMI mod, that was gold haha

  2. I have respect for Voultar and I hope he makes a full recovery. However, I also think he’s a bit of an arrogant prick and I hope this experience causes him to reflect on how he handles himself.
