ROM-hacking developer Marc Max has teased a new project titled Ninja Gaiden Shadow DX, accompanied by the message “the year of the ninja isn’t over yet,” implying that the release is planned before the end of the year. The image shared with the teaser shows Ninja Gaiden Shadow in its DX form, confirming a full Game Boy Color port of the original Game Boy title.
Like other DX conversions, Ninja Gaiden Shadow DX brings the game to Game Boy Color hardware, adding proper color support while keeping the original gameplay and structure intact. These types of projects have become increasingly popular, offering a faithful but refreshed way to experience classic handheld games.
For now, details remain limited, but with the developer explicitly stating that the year of the ninja isn’t over yet, Ninja Gaiden Shadow DX appears to be arriving sooner rather than later. Fans of Ninja Gaiden and Game Boy Color DX projects will want to keep a close eye on this one.
