Star Fox 64: Recompiled Released, Coexisting With Starship as a Parallel Native Port

Games N64

Star Fox 64: Recompiled has just been released, delivering a native PC port built using the N64: Recompiled static recompilation framework. Rather than emulation, the original N64 code is translated into a native application, allowing the game to run directly on modern hardware with high framerates, widescreen and ultrawide support, low input latency, and instant load times, all while preserving original gameplay behavior.

The project uses the RT64 rendering engine to accurately reproduce original N64 visual effects without hacks, extending them only where needed for modern displays. Extensive mod support is included from day one, enabling gameplay tweaks, new features, and texture packs.

Star Fox 64: Recompiled was developed alongside Starship, another native Star Fox 64 port that takes a different technical route. While Starship is based on decompiled source code, Recompiled relies on static recompilation, allowing both projects to evolve independently with distinct strengths and goals.

Rather than competing, the two projects are designed to coexist, offering complementary approaches to modernizing Star Fox 64. Together, they showcase how multiple preservation-friendly methods can bring classic N64 games to modern platforms without relying on traditional emulation.
