A clever new DIY project shows how the Steam Deck can be transformed into a fully self-contained mini arcade cabinet. Instead of relying on a separate PC or single-board computer, the build uses the Steam Deck itself as the core of the system, slotting neatly into a custom 3D-printed enclosure with real arcade controls.
The project was created by Tom Paterson, who designed a compact bartop-style cabinet that feels purpose-built while remaining modular. The Steam Deck slides securely into the cabinet, powering the display and controls, while remaining fully removable so it can still be used as a standard handheld when needed.
All design files are publicly available via MakerWorld, making the project accessible to anyone with a 3D printer. The files include the full cabinet structure, Steam Deck mounting components, and cutouts for arcade buttons and joystick hardware, allowing builders to recreate the project as-is or adapt it to their own preferences.
