Paramount Shuts Down PS1-Style Twin Peaks Horror Game

Games

After nearly two years of admiration within the retro gaming community, the PS1-styled horror fan game Twin Peaks: Into the Night has officially been shut down. On July 17, 2025, the developers BlueRoseTeam announced that they received a takedown notice from rights-holder Paramount, resulting in the removal of the demo and the indefinite halt of development.

“We can no longer promise any continuation,” the developers stated in an official post on X.

What Was Into the Night?

Into the Night was a fan-made tribute to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, designed with the visual and mechanical aesthetics of original PlayStation survival horror games. Players took on the role of Agent Cooper, exploring iconic locations such as the Great Northern Hotel and the forested outskirts of Twin Peaks.

With lo-fi graphics, tank-style movement, and haunting sound design, the game aimed to replicate the feeling of early Resident Evil and Silent Hill, while honoring the strange and surreal tone of its TV inspiration.

The Takedown: What Happened?

According to BlueRoseTeam’s public statement, a formal DMCA request was issued by Paramount, prompting them to take down the game’s demo and halt the project. While the team expressed disappointment, they acknowledged that the takedown was not entirely unexpected, given that the game directly used the Twin Peaks IP.

In their own words:

“This was a somewhat expected event. […] We will take a few weeks to try and find a positive solution, but we can no longer promise any continuation of the project.”

The Bigger Picture

I find it disheartening that so many heartfelt, creative projects are often shut down not out of necessity, but seemingly out of corporate control and brand management. It’s frustrating to see genuine fan passion treated as a threat instead of the tribute it truly is. These projects don’t compete they celebrate..

Despite its short lifespan, the project contributed meaningfully to the growing movement of PS1-style indie horror—a niche aesthetic that continues to inspire modern developers creating original works with retro visuals.
