Sonic Megamix Mania is a fan-made modification for Sonic Mania Plus that aims to continue the legacy of the discontinued ROM hack Sonic the Hedgehog Megamix. Built on the Sonic Mania engine, the project is split into two modes. Classic Mode is a faithful remake of the ROM hack’s V.4.0b content, offering familiar stages and ideas with updated visuals and polish, while Megamix Mode reinterprets concepts from the original hack and blends them with the team’s own creative vision to deliver a more experimental and unique experience.
The game also introduces an original story set months after Eggman’s disappearance following the Space Colony ARK incident. New discoveries on the Chiral Peninsula point to Eggman’s return, this time powered by Chaos Rings and positive ring energy. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty, and Shadow each play a role in the unfolding events, with character backgrounds and motivations woven directly into the narrative. Several new zones are featured, including Sunny Shores, Dark Fortress, City Outskirts, Misty Maze, Starry Night, and Metallic Base, each offering distinct themes and challenges.
Designed to be approachable for newcomers while still offering depth and difficulty for long-time fans, Sonic Megamix Mania positions itself as both a tribute and a continuation of one of the most ambitious classic Sonic fan projects. The mod is a non-profit fan game, not affiliated with SEGA, and is scheduled to release on 6 February 2026, with future updates planned beyond launch.
