In a livestream broadcast on youtube earlier today, AYANEO officially unveiled the AYANEO Pocket DS, a clamshell-style handheld that the company is calling the world’s first flip dual-screen Android gaming device. Designed for retro dual-screen enthusiasts and geek gamers, the Pocket DS is a clear homage to the Nintendo DS era but with modern internals and an Android-based ecosystem.
Qualcomm Partnership & ChinaJoy Debut
The Pocket DS is being developed in collaboration with Qualcomm, and will make its public debut at the Qualcomm Snapdragon booth at ChinaJoy 2025, which takes place from August 1–4 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. The device has been in development for about a year, and according to AYANEO, mass production is already underway a strong sign that the release is not far off.
While no pricing or release date was shared, CEO Arthur Zhang offered a quick look at a prototype during the livestream.
Part of a Broader Pocket Lineup
The Pocket DS wasn’t the only new device announced. AYANEO also showcased several other handhelds planned for release between now and late 2026, including:
- AYANEO Pocket Vert – A Game Boy–inspired vertical handheld built for retro enthusiasts.
- AYANEO Pocket Fit – A budget-friendly Android handheld to be released under AYANEO’s new sub-brand KONKR, targeting more casual or cost-conscious gamers.
These devices show AYANEO’s increasing focus on segmenting the handheld market — offering high-end, nostalgic, and entry-level options across both Windows and Android ecosystems.
Dual-Screen Competition Heats Up
The announcement of the Pocket DS comes at a time when dual-screen handhelds are gaining momentum. Other manufacturers have also been experimenting with this format:
- OneXPlayer’s OneXSugar introduced a rotatable dual-screen Android experience.
- Retroid released a dual-screen add-on for several of its handhelds, including the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and Pocket Mini.
Unlike these, however, the Pocket DS is an all-in-one, purpose-built clamshell device with true dual-screen integration.
