Analogue Pocket NES Core: It’s the ULTIMATE!!! MiSTer Port Now Does It ALL! (Download Link in Article)

Analogue Pocket NES

The Analogue Pocket has two Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) cores available via Open FPGA: one by Spiritualized and another ported from the MiSTer FPGA core by Adam Gastineau (Agg23).

FDS Compatibility Addition: The Spiritualized core already supports Famicom Disk System (FDS) games, but the Agg23 core has been recently updated by Terminator 2K2 to add FDS compatibility.

Improved Translation Example: The Famicom Disk System (Japanese) version of Castlevania 2 has a better translation than the standard USA or European NES version of the game.

Core Version Implementation: The updated core seamlessly implements four versions internally to handle different types of content: two for various NES mappers, one for NSF (NES Sound Format) files, and a fourth specifically for the Famicom Disc System.

Automatic Disc Handling: When playing FDS games, the core automatically manages the disc loading prompts, such as “insert disc side B”.

Current Distribution Issue: At the time of the video, the core could not be distributed because Terminator 2K2 was unable to separate certain files that are protected by copyright.

You download the required files here, which you can add to the current Agg23 NES core to get all these extra features. You can refer to the video embedded at the bottom of the page for a tutorial on where to place the files. Please also take note of the image below, which shows you where the FDS BIOS file goes (not provided).

Save Limitation: In the version, normal game saves do not work, but save states are functional.
