Air Gallet Now Playable on MiSTerFPGA

MiSTer FPGA Arcade Games

The Coin-Op Collection has added Air Gallet to its Cave 68000 core for MiSTerFPGA. Originally released in 1996 by Gazelle Co., Ltd., Air Gallet (also known as Akuu Gallet) is a vertical scrolling shooter known for its intense action, vibrant sprite work, and heavy firepower. It was the studio’s second and final arcade title, following Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon.

Directed by Tatsuya Uemura (of Toaplan fame) and featuring art from Junya “Joker Jun” Inoue, the game combines chaotic enemy waves, fast bullet patterns, and explosive effects reminiscent of Dogyuun and Batsugun. Though not revolutionary in mechanics, it’s praised for its polished presentation and solid gameplay.

Porting it to MiSTer required bypassing unique memory checks, fixing interrupt handling, and enabling 6bpp layer rendering. It also takes advantage of the collection’s new audio system and overlay pause screen. Another underappreciated arcade game now preserved and playable on MiSTer.
