Here’s an easy-to-read summary of the R2 “Phat” proto board update:
The FPGAArcade R2 “Phat” proto board is nearing completion after facing hardware development challenges. A more affordable “Lite” version will also be produced. This board is not MiSTer2, but shares some early firmware. Its optimized Linux, graphical front end, and new framework are still in development, with the project becoming open-source upon shipping. The R2 board supports existing cores via SDRAM and new ones with HyperRAMs, offering extensive connectivity like USB, USB-C, 4K digital output, analog audio, Gigabit Ethernet, VGA, and PCIe Gen 3, with options for more I/O. We at Metal Game Solid are very much looking forward to this releasing. It’ll be interesting to see what new core come to this. Will this do the Dreamcast? As well as newer arcade systems? I guess time will tell.
