The Roadmap
One of the heavyweight FPGA core developers known as Jotego, who runs a team dedicated to preserving arcade games via devices such as the MiSTer and the Analogue Pocket, among others, recently gave us a roadmap that leads to CPS3 (Capcom Play System 3) being developed.

Step 1 – Golfing Greats Beta ✅
Golfing Greats was the first step which has now been achieved, If you are Jotego Patreon supporter then you can enjoy this game on your FPGA device right now.
Released in 1991, Golfing Greats was a Konami arcade game that brought realistic 3D golf to life. Utilizing its unique PSAC2 chip, the game created a sense of speed and depth through a virtual 3D experience. It was celebrated for its visual fidelity and immersive atmosphere, despite some technical quirks.
Step 2 – Run and Gun (in progress)
Work is being carried out on Run and Gun, and this is the next Beta we will likely see from Jotego and his team.
Run and Gun shares the same PSAC 3D projection chip as Golfing Greats. This chip, created by Konami, provides a virtual 3D experience by scanning 2D tile maps with arbitrary zoom and orientation, similar to the Super Nintendo’s famous Mode 7.
The Final Destination – CPS3
Once the above two are done, we can move over to what many including myself consider the holy grail of FPGA gaming. The Capcom Play System III. The System only has three game, including Street Fighter III: Third Strike, which by many is considered the best 2D Fighting Game of all time.
