Banjo: Recompiled has been quietly released, delivering a native recompiled PC version of Banjo-Kazooie for Windows, Linux, and macOS. With no long buildup or formal announcement, the project effectively shadow dropped, immediately making prebuilt binaries and source code available to the public.
Unlike traditional emulation, Banjo: Recompiled uses static N64 recompilation, resulting in a native application that runs directly on modern operating systems. This approach allows for smoother performance, low overhead, and opens the door to deeper modifications. The release trailer already showcased several mods, including Jiggies of Time, Nostalgia 64, and a reloaded texture pack, with a Thunderstore mod page currently in the works.
The developers note that users with Intel GPUs should ensure they are running the latest drivers directly from Intel, as outdated drivers can cause crashes or visual glitches. Antivirus warnings have also been reported, but these are confirmed to be false positives for the official builds.
For fans of Banjo-Kazooie and those following the recent wave of N64 recompilation projects, this release is another clear sign of how quickly the scene is moving, and how classic games are finding new life on modern platforms without the need for full remakes or official ports.
