Dragon Blazers: A Retro Action Platformer with a Toriyama Touch

Games

Dragon Blazers is an upcoming 2D action platformer from developer Sylph, combining fast-paced arcade gameplay with vibrant 16-bit visuals and a strong sense of humor. The game draws heavy inspiration from Dragon Ball and other works by Akira Toriyama, featuring expressive character designs, exaggerated animations, and colorful worlds that feel straight out of a late-80s anime.

Players join the Dragon Blazers, a team of warriors who wield ancient draconic techniques to take down a cyber-ninja army threatening their world. It features local co-op, multiple playable characters (three main heroes plus unlockables), shops, boss battles, and dozens of missions. The combat looks fast, flashy, and rooted in classic arcade design, with tight controls and combo-based action.

Visually, it stands out thanks to hand-drawn pixel art instead of skeletal animation, staying true to the old-school look. Players can also switch between color palettes and screen modes, from “perfect pixel” to full screen.

Originally introduced through a Kickstarter campaign, Dragon Blazers is listed on Steam and will be released soon. It promises a nostalgic but fresh experience, clearly made by someone who grew up watching Toriyama’s work and playing 16-bit era classics.
