The classic Ecco the Dolphin series is set to return in remastered form, with the original 1992 game and its 1994 sequel Ecco: The Tides of Time both confirmed for remasters. These are being overseen by series creator Ed Annunziata together with much of the original team, and development is underway though specific platforms and release windows haven’t been officially announced yet.
In addition to the remasters, a brand-new Ecco title is also in development, aiming to bring the franchise into a modern context with updated gameplay and graphics. Announcement details remain sparse, but a countdown on the official Ecco the Dolphin website suggests a major reveal could arrive around April 2026.
The Ecco the Dolphin franchise began on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and is known for its underwater exploration, environmental themes, and challenging gameplay. Remastered editions of the first two games would mark a rare return of the series nearly three decades after its heyday.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. I think a new Ecco game could put a great spin on the metroidvania formula.
