M2 has surprised retro gaming fans with the sudden release of Night Striker Gear on Steam, dropping without a prior public announcement and delivering what is billed as a long-awaited sequel to the 1989 arcade classic Night Striker. The original game launched in arcades by Taito, putting players in a futuristic, on-rails shooting ride in a flying armored car battling terrorists in the year 2049.
In this new entry, you take control of the armored vehicle INTER-GRAY on a cyber-futuristic highway, cannon blazing and enemies swarming, as you dive into the mystery at the Lotus Layer resort complex. The game retains the sprite-scaling pseudo-3D aesthetic of the original while adding modern visuals, a fresh “GEAR System” for tactical depth, and full support for English and Japanese languages.
This surprise release has already sparked excitement among enthusiasts who cherish classic arcade shooters. Looked at in the context of the series, it’s a well-timed nod to the late 80s shoot-’em-up era, proving that these mechanics still hold appeal today.

Can confirm that it’s great! I’ve put about two hours into it already, and it is a very worthy follow up to the original.
Wishlisted it! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Also cool that the original Night Striker (and many other classic shoot’em’ups) can be bought as a DLC for DariusBurst Chronicle Saviors, which I already own.
