Square Enix has announced that a new version of FINAL FANTASY VII is coming to Steam, with the current release being rebranded as FINAL FANTASY VII – 2013 Edition once the update goes live. The new version will replace the existing store listing, while the 2013 Edition will no longer be available for purchase.
Existing owners will not be left behind. Anyone who already owns the 2013 Edition will retain access to it and will also be able to download the new version at no additional cost, with both releases appearing separately in their Steam library. One important limitation is that save data will not carry over, as save files are not compatible between the two versions.
At this time, Square Enix has not shared any details on what will actually be improved in the new release. No information has been provided regarding visual upgrades, performance changes, bug fixes, or added features, making it unclear whether this is a technical refresh or a more meaningful update. Further details are expected at a later date.

Thanks for the heads-up! Just got the “old” 2013 version on Steam so I’ll have both.
