It’s no secret that we over at Metal Game Solid love ROM Hacks. Mario Kart 64 Amped Up is the pinnacle of Mario Kart 64 ROM hacks. It adds so much to the game including brand new tracks, some from other games like Diddy Kong racing and a whole lot more. It adds assets from other Mario Kart titles too, this latest update even includes Bowsers Clown Car in Neo Bowser City. It has great new game modes like a non-stop Grand Prix that takes you through all the cups in one big event. Coin Challenge, Elimination and Balloon Race are there too. Oh yeah, I forgot about the banging new tunes this thing puts out too. In a nutshell, it’s like classic MK64 on steroids. The beauty is it can be played on original hardware. I have not tried this version out yet, but I have patched it and placed in on my MiSTer FPGA. I fully intend to test it out on the MiSTer’s N64 first chance I get, I’ll be doing a video on it too.
