Check out the video above from Hard4Games YouTube channel, which talks about a newly discovered Nintendo Virtual Boy prototype of a sequel to a baseball game. The Virtual Boy is coming back in the form of a Nintendo Switch add-on, so I guess this is good timing. Who knows, maybe Nintendo will make it official.
Here are some key points from the video.
The prototype game, Virtual League Baseball 2 by Chemco, was found and released to the public.
The game was canceled due to the Virtual Boy’s demise and “absolutely abysmal sales.”
The first Virtual League Baseball game was generally considered questionable, with one major complaint being how tiny the players were on the actual Virtual Boy screen.
The prototype, Virtual League Baseball 2, is noted to be better than the first game.
Key improvements in the prototype include:
- More options, such as a team editor mode. A patch is available from Planet Virtual Boy to max out the points in the editor.
- A spruced up presentation, including added stadiums and exterior shots.
- The addition of voice acting, which the first game completely lacked.
- Bigger players on the field, which would have made it easier to see the action on the actual Virtual Boy hardware.
- The gameplay seems to be smoother and easier.
The game was supposedly going to include a two-player mode that would have utilized the unreleased Game Link cable.
