The NES scene keeps surprising us with creative crossovers, and Pac-Man: Deltarune Edition is one of those wild mashups nobody expected but everyone can appreciate. Released by Ninjacat25, this new graphical hack of Pac-Man Championship Edition replaces the familiar maze-running hero and his ghostly pursuers with characters straight out of Deltarune.
In this quirky version, the classic Pac-Man is swapped for The Original Starwalker, while the ghosts take the form of the “FRIEND” enemies seen during the Shadow Mantle boss fight in Deltarune Chapter 3. Themed UI elements and clever sprite work help the two universes blend together seamlessly, all while maintaining the fast-paced gameplay that defines Pac-Man Championship Edition.
Almost every collectible has been reimagined, too, fruits and items now represent various Deltarune characters and creations. A few fun details remain, like the bananas, which were kept as a cheeky nod to fans who’ll understand the reference.
According to the creator, the project began as a lighthearted experiment imagining Deltarune’s characters within the Pac-Man universe, and eventually evolved into a full graphical overhaul. The hack was built using a ROM already patched with the “Fixed Ghosts and Start Button Combined” update, ensuring smooth gameplay from start to finish.
While undeniably niche, Pac-Man: Deltarune Edition is a delightful crossover that celebrates both series in a charmingly unexpected way. Whether you’re a Deltarune fan, a Pac-Man enthusiast, or just someone who loves creative fan projects, this hack is worth checking out.
