Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America, has announced his plan to retire, with his last day set for December 31, 2025. Bowser has led the company’s North American division for the past six years.
Bowser joined Nintendo in 2015 as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and was appointed president in 2019, succeeding Reggie Fils-Aimé. During his tenure, he oversaw a period of significant success for the company, including the sustained popularity of the Nintendo Switch console, which has sold over 130 million units worldwide.
In a public statement, Bowser expressed his gratitude for his time at the company, noting his lifelong connection to Nintendo that began with playing the original Donkey Kong arcade game in college. “It has been an honor to contribute to this incredible company and bring our beloved characters and worlds to fans through our video games, theme parks, and movie experiences,” he said. Bowser also confirmed he would remain a passionate fan of the brand.
Devon Pritchard, who currently serves as Executive Vice President of Business Affairs and Publisher Relations, will take over as president. She has been with Nintendo of America since 2006.
Bowser’s retirement concludes a notable chapter for Nintendo’s North American leadership, following a period of expansion that included the launch of Super Nintendo World theme parks and the successful animated film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
About Doug Bowser
Before his time at Nintendo, Doug Bowser had a long career in the tech and gaming industries. He spent over two decades at Electronic Arts (EA), where he held various leadership roles, including Senior Vice President of Global Publishing and Marketing. His extensive background in sales and marketing, combined with a genuine enthusiasm for gaming, made him a suitable leader for Nintendo’s North American operations. Fans have often found humor in his name, which shares a spelling with Mario’s arch nemesis, a coincidence Bowser has openly embraced.
