A new custom Super Famicom project, the OpenSFC, has been unveiled. Designed and built entirely by starlightk7 , the board is based on the original SHVC model, considered by many to be the best-designed of the two-chip Super Famicom/SNES boards.
The SHVC layout includes a removable sound module, which has also been recreated for this build. The project is planned to become OSHW (Open Source Hardware) in the near future, meaning its schematics and design files will be publicly available for anyone to study, modify, or reproduce.
The OpenSFC aims to keep the authentic hardware feel while opening the door for community-driven improvements and repairs. This custom board was first showcased on July 22, 2025.
