Based on a recent post on the Neo Geo subreddit, u/Upstairs_Report6208 has acquired an incredibly rare, early prototype of the Neo Geo CD Front Loader console, specifically “Console No. 4.” The unit, which was bought as “junk” with a black screen, features unique boards (CDROM-1 and CD-ANA) and even has a “SAMPLE” label on the power button PCB.
The owner detailed their successful repair process in the Reddit post. After initial troubleshooting with capacitors, they discovered the ultimate fix was a misaligned CD tray. A new belt and proper alignment restored the console to full functionality, including the CD-ROM drive. The console also runs a very early “Ver 0.02” software, and the owner is now seeking more information on this particular version.
