A new fan translation by washbear was made for Necros Fortress, also known as Neclos Fortress, fully playable in English. Originally released in Japan in 1990 for the PC Engine on HuCard, the turn based RPG was tied to a line of candy toys that included collectible figures and a card game.
The translation covers all seven chapters of the game, each featuring a different party of three characters drawn from eight classes, Mercenary, Knight, Amazon, Mage, Elf, Samurai, Berserker and Dwarf. A full playthrough was completed during development to ensure no context was missed, and a new lowercase font has been added to improve readability. No original game code was modified, the hack has been tested on real hardware, and the tooling used for the project is open source.
Credits also go to DamienG for the Pristine lowercase font and to the Japanese fan community for their extensive guides and walkthroughs.
