Battle Master – Hidden Gem for SNES Now in English for the First Time

SNES Games Romhacks

For the first time, the Super Famicom-exclusive fighter Battle Master: Kyūkyoku no Senshi-tachi is fully playable in English.

Originally released in 1993, Battle Master features fast-paced combat, dash attacks, and air blocks—earning comparisons to Street Fighter II. Despite solid mechanics, it was never released outside Japan and remained untranslated until now.

Released on July 27, 2025, the fan translation—titled Battle Master – Ultimate Warriors—translates all menus, dialogue, and story text into English.

  1. Pleasantly surprised with this one. It wears it’s inspirations on it’s sleeve, but it is definitely one of the better Street Fighter 2 clones on the SNES. Solid mechanics including air blocks, easy to pull off combos, super moves that can be performed in air and more than once, and dash mechanics. Solid graphics. Perhaps a bit on the easy side. I was able to finish it on normal difficulty on my first play through. Thanks for pointing this one out, it wasn’t on my radar before seeing your article.
