Viewpoint 2064 Master Build Finally Released After 25 Years

N64 Games

After more than two decades in lost-media limbo, the master build of Viewpoint 2064 has finally surfaced, giving Nintendo 64 fans their first real look at the near-finished version of this long-canceled shooter.

Originally shown at SpaceWorld 1999, Viewpoint 2064 was planned as a 3D reimagining of the Neo-Geo classic, shifting from isometric shooting to a Star Fox-style rail-shooter format. Despite promising previews, the game disappeared before release, and for years only a rough prototype from 2020 was available.

The newly uncovered master build, now preserved on an archival website, paints a very different picture. It features clearer visuals, more complete stages, smoother performance and overall polish that strongly suggests the game was approaching its intended launch before being quietly canceled during the final years of the N64.

For preservationists, this marks an important recovery of lost gaming history. And for players, it finally allows Viewpoint 2064 to be experienced properly through emulation or flash cartridges, nearly 25 years after it vanished.

  1. There’s already a rumour floating around that the anonymous person is Palmer Luckey 😉
It would be one of the hyped ‘unreleased games’ for the M64, further polished up by the M64 devs.
