DSpico, The First Open Source DS Flashcart, Is Now Officially Released

DS

The LNH-team has officially released DSpico, the first fully open source flashcart for the Nintendo DS and DSi. The announcement comes after four years of development, with the team confirming that both the hardware and firmware are openly available for anyone to study, build or modify.

DSpico runs on custom hardware designed by the LNH-team and works on real DS and DSi systems. The cart is capable of loading homebrew and DS software, and the team has shown it working with tools like NitroTracker and other test applications. Because the entire project is open source, users can compile the firmware, assemble the hardware themselves or use community-made builds as the project evolves.

The release is significant for preservation and homebrew communities. Commercial DS flashcarts have traditionally been closed products with disappearing stock, no transparency and no long term guarantees. DSpico takes the opposite approach by making everything public and community driven.

The team published the full details on their official site, including documentation, downloads and hardware files. With the project now live, developers and hardware enthusiasts can begin experimenting immediately, and the community will likely build on top of it in the coming months.
